Female country-western hearts will go pitter-patter when they learn who was in town Dec. 18. Kenny Chesney flew in to the Bardstown-Nelson County Airport with his girlfriend, Miss Tennessee 2008 Amy Colley, to buy two puppies from Cathy Adamson at Puppies Plus on West Stephen Foster Avenue.
“I didn’t have any idea who he was to start with,” Adamson said. She had been talking to Colley and the contract was in Colley’s name.
Adamson picked the couple up from their jet at the airport, giving them the celebrity treatment she promises on her Web site, www.lilpoodles.com. Chesney introduced himself as “Kenny.” He was wearing a beanie hat and Adamson didn’t recognize him. She drove them back to Puppies Plus, where they spent about 1 1/2 hours picking out the puppies. They got two female teacup MaltiPoos and named them Molly and Dolly. They also bought some supplies for the dogs.
Chesney was down to earth and not at all stuffy, Adamson said. He sat on the couch and let a puppy crawl up on his chest and lick his face. He laughed and said the puppy loved him and was cute.
Then Adamson took Colley and Chesney back to the airport. On the way there, Chesney e-mailed pictures of the puppies from his iPhone, Adamson said.
At the airport, she went aboard their jet to say goodbye. Just before they were getting ready to leave, the ground crew told her, “Hey, you sold puppies to Kenny Chesney.”
“I’m like, ‘Really?’” Adamson responded.
She got back on the plane and said, “Don’t tell me you’re Kenny Chesney.”
“Yeah, I am,” he said.
Adamson said she’s not really into celebrities.
“If Mel Gibson walked up to my door I’d know him, but other than that … .”
